Race of Traditional Sailing Boat to Celebrate Independent Day
BATUNUNGGUL, WONDERFUL NUSA PENIDA
The district Goverment of Nusa Penida held traditional boat race to commemorate the 72th Indonesia Independent Day on Wednesday, August 16 2017. This regular event also done every year to campaign to promote Nusa Penida as new paradise of tourism destinations. It’s expected to bring better impact on the tourism development of Nusa Penida and Bali with to attract foreign and domestic visitors.
Thousands of visitor come the starting point of the race since early morning to support their team. The race totally depend on the wind power and direction. Based on information form head of commitee, I Putu Suartawan said about twelve participant been selected to join the race.
“We have selected them all before and about 12 teams can join the race today. Most of them are local fishermen and already qualify in the same race,” he confirmed.
The wind will detemine the race going smoothly including the skill of every participant in controlling the sail. The race start around 11.00 a.m at Batununggul Beach and go through route for 20 miles. Participant should sail for go and back from starting point to Suana Village and back to first point.
Chief of Nusa Penida Distric, I Gusti Agung Gede Putra Mahajaya appreciate the spirit of all participant and more intend to sportmanship and the celebration as the main intention. Meanwhile, a local participant I Ketut Rai revealed that the prize is not the orientation.
“The prize is not big but we do not find for that thing. We would like to show up our nationalism spirit,” he claimed.
