Nusa Penida Festival 2017 Postponed Due to Mount Agung Alert Level

Mount Agung is ahead of erupting. The government of Klungkung Regency decided to postpone annual event of Nusa Penida Festival 2017 for an undetermined time. Based on the previous schedule, the festival should be held in Jungutbatu Village, Lembongan Island on 5 to 8 October. The postponement due to enhancement of Mount Agung’s volcanic activities which now in alert level.

“We postpone the event Nusa Penida Festival 2017 for an undetermined time. When the situation already good and stable, we can continue it again. Nowadays, we focus to take care the refugess,” said The Regent of Klungkung, I Nyoman Suwirta on Tuesday, 26th September.

The Disaster Mitigation Agency said 75,673 people had fled based on the data on Tuesday (26/9) at 12.00 am. The refugees spread out in 377 points in 9 regencies in Bali Island. The number was expected to rise because more people lived in the danger zone. The government stated danger zone 5.6 miles from the crater and more people from close area also fled for safety reason.

Klungkung Regency accomodates 19,456 refugees in 162 places including village hall, home resident, and public building. As the history of last eruption in 1963, it killed more than 1,100 people and injuried hundreds more and remained active for about a year. Preventing bad situation, the government advises the people who live around danger area to move safe zone.
